Bristol & District Anti-Cuts Alliance
Media & information Group – Meeting 1, 8th February 2010
A paper on the purpose and strategy of this group was presented by Simon.
BADACA Media and Information Group 80210
There was discussion of it the particular concern being whether BADACA’s groups had the time and capacity to carry out detailed journalistic activity. Very few would be able to do this kind of work so BADACA would need a central team of researchers. It was also pointed out that there was so much information on the cuts available that we didn’t need much research. However, there is not much information about their effects locally.
It was agreed that a central reporting point was needed for news on the cuts and that, ideally, each group should have a reporter who sends it in. A forum topic will be set up for each group on the website, deadlines will be set and if nothing was posted by groups, an e-mail should be sent requesting information.
Ther use of film was discussed and it was agreed to have a day in Broadmead and perhaps other centres where there are local BADACA groups doing vox pop interviews with simple cameras.
The CUTZ bulletin was discussed. We will be giiven a list of sources and the monitoring divided amongst group members. The Forum will be used to post stories.
Responsibility for the BADACA Facebook page was given to a member of the group. A Twitter feed will be set up with automatic transfer from the website to Facebook and Twitter.
Other matters discussed were telephone trees, a BADACA office and an online cuts map for Bristol.
