The inaugural meeting was a success with some very angry local
residents coming up with loads of ideas on how to build a campaign.
Workers employed in health, education and local government were joined
by residents and workers from the private sector in a united
expression of opposition to the cuts. Ideas from the meeting:
• Produce a “Democracy Wall” in the local shopping centre
• Build a local campaign against cuts in a local education
establishment
• New leaflet for wider distribution
• Debate with local councillors
• Picket politician surgeries
• Find out the stance of candidates in local elections related to
the cuts
• Organise a music event “Folk the Cuts”
• Contact local GP surgeries
• Invite reps from local schools, health and other public sector
workplaces to send representatives
• Publicise the Demo on 26th March to get as many locals as possible
on the street
Next meeting 15th March
