BRISTOL & DISTRICT ANTI-CUTS ALLIANCE BULLETIN – 19th October 2012

No To Austerity – The Fight Goes On

Tomorrow’s demonstration is only one step in the fight against the government’s austerity programme. BADACA will continue to work with trades unions and community groups to build a broad-based campaign against the cuts. In the coming months we are planning campaigns around closure and privatisation of care homes and day centres, fragmentation and privatisation of the NHS and further budget cuts by Bristol City Council. Come to our open meeting on Monday 22nd October to see how you can join in. Details below and Facebook here

If you haven’t organised how you’ll get to London tomorrow, details of coaches from Bristol and the surrounding area can be found on our website here. Don’t delay, book today. If you have queries on the information provided please email admin@bristolanticutsalliance.org.uk. Information on TUC website here.

21st November is the date for theNUS Student Demonstration. Facebookhere. Look out for more information next week.

Nominations for the mayoral election close today. By Monday we will know the choice to be put before voters on November 15th. More hustings meetings have been added and more information is available about others. The information on our website has been updated here. Evening Post story on their hustings here. Some hustings organisers are trying to exclude anti-cuts candidates from the platform at their meetings. If you hear of this happening please email admin@bristolanticutsalliance.org.uk.

We want to make sure that there are anti-cuts questions posed at every meeting. We have leaflets to hand out at the meetings as well. If you can attend any of these meetings please email admin@bristolanticutsalliance.org.uk as soon as possible. We will publicise candidates’ views as widely as possible. If you have an idea for a question please email it to admin@bristolanticutsalliance.org.uk. We will try to ensure that as many of our questions are put to the candidates at as many of the hustings as possible.

The threats to pay and conditions posed by employers’ plans to introduce ‘local bargaining‘ in the NHS are meeting with concerted opposition. These plans are part of the government’s attempts to fragment and privatise the NHS. Trades unions will lobby the meeting of the local NHS trust on Tuesday 30th October. Details on Facebook (including motion passed by South Gloucestershire Unison branch) here. BADACA will be working with unions to organise a demonstration in Bristol on Saturday 1st December. Look out for more details next week

Please help us to distribute the new edition of BADACA’s NHS pamphlet as widely as possible. It’s available online here. You can get printed copies by emailing admin@bristolanticutsalliance.org.uk.

Please try to get involved in as many of the activities below as possible and pass the information on to others who may be interested

BADACA Health Group Meeting – Tuesday 13th November (Provisional)

At a time when the government’s fragmentation and privatisation of the NHS is beginning to take shape and the unions are organising to fightback against ‘local bargaining’ it seems a good time to re-convene the BADACA Health group which put together the excellent pamphlet on the threats to the NHS earlier in the year.
