John Lister Speaks In Bristol

Don’t forget the ‘NHS Emergency!‘ meeting on Monday 28th May at which John Lister, director of London Health Emergency speaks. London Health Emergency, with John at its head, has been at the forefront of campaigns to defend the NHS since the 1980s. This meeting is an unrivalled opportunity to hear him speak and discuss how we can build an effective campaign locally to defend the NHS. Please help us publicise this meeting as widely as possible. A flyer is available here. Details on Facebook here and below. See London Health Emergency website here.

The new edition of BADACA’s NHS pamphlet is available online here. You can get printed copies by emailing admin@bristolanticutsalliance.org.uk. Some trades union branches are taking copies to distribute to members. Please get in touch if your branch wants to do this.

The TUC have named the day for another mass demonstration against the government’s economic policy – Saturday October 20th. Put the date in your diary now and watch out for more details as they become available. Facebook here. Information on TUC website here.

There was a problem last week on the website hosting the Defend our Multicultural Society in Bristol. EDL Not Welcome Here‘ online petition. If you tried to sign it last week and failed, or haven’t signed yet you can try again here. The aim is to get 3000 signatures and force a debate in the city council. “We Are Bristol” has been formed to combat the threat of the EDL and have drawn up a statement to sign – details on our website here and on Facebook here. The next We Are Bristol open meeting is on Monday May 28th, 7.30 at the Fire Brigades Union offices – 158 Muller Road, Horfield, Bristol, BS7 9RE (further up towards Gloucester Road from B&Q). All welcome. And, last but not least, Olympic legend John Carlos who electrified the world by giving the black power salute at the 1968 Olympics will be speaking on Friday 1st June at 7.30pm at the Malcolm X Centre,141 City Road, Bristol, BS2 8YH – organised by We Are Bristol & Unite Against Fascism. Better than the Olympic torch and a key moment in building the campaign to stop the EDL. In the fight against the cuts, our unity is our strength. The EDL divides people along religious and ethnic lines weakening us in our campaigns. The government’s austerity policies push people into the arms of groups like the EDL. If you are involved with campaigning against the EDL march and want BADACA to publicise your activities, please email admin@bristolanticutsalliance.org.uk. For full information see our website here.

Two national conferences coming up in the fight against austerity – National Shop Stewards Network June 9th; details hereUnite the Resistance June 23rd; details here.

More video of the May 5th NHS demonstration and May 10th pensions strike in Bristol can be seen here. And the latest PCS statement on the dispute here.

And a street theatre event in central Bristol on Saturday 16th June that look interesting – flyer & details here.

Please try to get involved in as many of the activities below as possible and pass the information on to others who may be interested.
