BRISTOL & DISTRICT ANTI-CUTS ALLIANCE BULLETIN
13th April 2012
May Day – Save The NHS
Plans are now well-advanced for the Save Our NHS demonstration on Saturday May 5th – one of several events across the city to mark May Day – international workers’ day. Although the bill has passed through parliament the battle to defend the NHS will continue. The fight is far from over. Initiated by BADACA the demonstration is supported by trade union branches and other groups across the city. If your branch or organisation can formally support the demonstration please email admin@bristolanticutsalliance.org.uk. Current details are below. Facebook here. A flyer can be downloaded from here. And a poster from here.
Meanwhile, other protests against the threats to the NHS continue across the city. There is a Facebook group here. Details of all local NHS protests, including 5th May demonstration can be found here. There is a new edition of BADACA’s well-received pamphlet on the NHS available online here. A printed version will be ready for distribution soon.
In the run-up to the 5th May demonstration BADACA will be holding local Save The NHS meetings across the city. We already have plans for meetings in Bedminster, Knowle/Totterdown, Fishponds, Easton & Southmead. Details if these meetings wil be published when they become available – Fishponds, Bedminster & Southmead meeting details are below. If you can help us organise these meetings or want to discuss holding a meeting in your own area please email admin@bristolanticutsalliance.org.uk
We must continue to press for a national demonstration in defence of the NHS. This would take the campaign to a new level. There is a petition calling on 38 Degrees to take up this call. You can vote here. The TUC needs to take up the issue as well. There is a model resolution here for trades union branches to pass, calling on the TUC to organise a national demonstration. Please propose it at your next branch meeting.
The demonstration on 5th May is one of several events in the city to mark May Day – international workers’ day. More on this on our website here. Details of specific events wiil be posted as they become available.
BADACA will be holding stalls through the city as the spring and summer months come. We are looking for a person (or people) who can take on the role of gathering together suitable anti-cuts material and ensuring we always have it available when needed. If you think you can help with this (or know someone who might) please get in touch by email at admin@bristolanticutsalliance.org.uk
The English Defence League is threatening to hold a march in Bristol on Saturday 21st July. Current details of plans to oppose them can be found on our website here.
Please try to get involved in as many of the activities below as possible and pass the information on to others who may be interested.
