BRISTOL & DISTRICT ANTI-CUTS ALLIANCE
BULLETIN – 18th November 2011

More Unions Join The Strike

In the last few days, GMB, Unite, the First Division Association, and UCATT have all announced ballot results in support of strike action on November 30th. By the time you read this the NAS/UWT teachers union will probably have followed suit. Rumour has that the Royal College Of Nursing is going to make use of Francis Maude’s offer of a 15 minute ‘tea-break strike’ to allow their members to show support for the action. There will be millions of people on strike and a huge demonstration in Bristol. Make sure you’re part of it. A flyer for the demonstration on November 30th can be downloaded from here. The front of the flyer makes a good poster. Print it out and stick it in your window. More details on Facebook here. If you live in Easton check Facebook here & here for more events linked to the strike on November 30th. There are also meetings in Fishponds & Bedminster over the next week or so – details below

You’ve probably seen ‘Bristol Fightback’ by now. If not it can be downloaded as a PDF file here. Please email this link to anyone you know who is interested. We will also be handing them out in Broadmead with the South West TUC on Saturday 19th December (details below) and on the demonstration on November 30th. Again if you can help on either of these days please email admin@bristolanticutsalliance.org.uk as soon as possble. Please do what you can to make BADACA’s name even better known across the city.

BADACA will be lobbying the full meeting of Bristol City Council on Tuesday 22nd November. Please note that the meeting is in the afternoon, so meet at the Council House from 1pm. If you can spend the afternoon in the public gallery all the better. There is a motion (from the Tories!) supporting the in-house Home Care service. BADACA will be making a statement to the meeting. Details are below and on Facebook here. And of course, Tuesday’s Evening Post featured this article about closure of city council care homes. Council leaders criticised BADACA and others for spreading alarm when we told people of these plans over the summer. The alarm was entirely justified. Look out for more on this over coming months as the council’s budget for next year emerges. And on Thursday 24th November, the city council Cabinet meets to discuss the council’s Finances (more cuts to be sure) and the privatisation of the Youth Service – see this in yesterday’s Evening Post. BADACA will be at the Council House from 5pm on Thursday 24th. Facebook event page here.

Support the OccupyBristol camp as it grows on College Green. Please support them in any way you can. They have appealed in particular for: firewood, blankets, food, money, entertainment, volunteers, campers, arts & crafts materials & wooden boards. Go down to see them. Check out their FaceBook pages here and their website here. Call the camp information line on 07415 139 464. There is more information on the BADACA website here which will be updated regularly.  Photos of the camp can be seen here .

Please try to get involved in as many of the activities below as possible and pass the information on to others who may be interested.
