Following a meeting between public sector unions at the TUC conference, a national day of action against the ConDems’ vicious attacks on public services, jobs & pensions has been announced for Wednesday 30th November. In addition to the unions who joined the strike on 30th June, PCS, NUT, UCU & ATL, several other unions have announced ballots for industrial action including NASUWT and the big three: Unite, Unison & GMB.

Notwithstanding the government backing down from their plans for cuts, the 30th November will be an historic day for Britain. It could be the largest scale industrial action since the General Strike of 1926, with possibly in excess of 3 million workers taking part.

The unions locally have already agreed to organise a demonstration & rally in Bristol following the same route we did on 30th June. (College Green, round the Centre, Baldwin St., Union St., round the Horsefair then to Castle Park.) Assemble College Green 11am. This will be one of the biggest demo’s ever held in Bristol with maybe four or five times as many strikers as in June. Bristol & District Anti-Cuts Alliance will work closely with the unions locally, as we did on the 30th June. Watch this space for more details of local events happening on the day.

Please ‘attend’ and invite your friends to our Facebook event for the strike…

Also, please let us know if you can help out with any of the following…

  1. On November 30th, Unison members at the BRI will walk out at midnight. They want to make this as big an event as possible to get the day off to a great start. They are inviting supporters to meet them outside when they walk out and then join them in a candlelit vigil. If you can get there, meet outside the main entrance of the BRI at 11.45pm (on 29th November, of course!) with candles.
  1. BADACA has lots of copies of ‘Bristol Fightback’ to give out on the demonstration on November 30th. We need a team of people to give them out. If you are able to help with this please email admin@bristolanticutsalliance.org.uk as soon as possible.
  1. BADACA has a super new banner. We need someone with at least rudimentary skills in woodwork to buy and put together some poles for it. We want to give the banner its first proper outing on November 30th so we need help with this urgently. If you think this is something you could take on please email admin@bristolanticutsalliance.org.uk as soon as possible.

See you all on November 30th – 11am College Green.
